Diving History
Originally certified through NASDS (National Association
of Skin Diving Schools) in 1974 who's name was later changed to the National
Association of Scuba Diving Schools.
Continued dive training included certifications through:
NAUI, IANTD, TDI, NACD, & NSS-CDS.
Did the Gulf of Mexico dives for a while, but hated I
couldn't drink that nasty salt water
My buddies and I were drawn to the North Florida springs,
as we had completed our dive training there.
We started making regular trips to Morrison Springs and
Vortex Springs and Merrit’s Millpond, shortly after our dive course
completion. It didn't take long to figure out where all that crystal clear,
fresh water was coming from. We bought our first dive lights and rounded
up a hundred feet of ski-rope, and our cave diving careers were off and
running.
Do I recommend this approach today? Absolutely
Not! Cave training was very difficult to find in those days,
in our area. We were all very lucky to have survived these early entries
into the Florida caves.
I dropped out of diving after my buddies and I went to
college and work. I never could get it out of my head! I started diving
again, a little at the time, soon the candle was once again burning. Then
a full blown forest fire was in progress. I have continued my dive training
ever since. I continue Instructor training even today. I feel that everything
I learn, makes my diving more enjoyable and more safe! I teach to pass
on that which I have learned, over my many years of diving. I act as a
mentor to many divers, some I have trained, and some who I have come to
know through diving, who need someone to guide them slowly, into their
current diving interests.
